Ruth Hammond Campbell

Mattie Ruth Hammond Campbell, 89, wife of the late Walter Reid "Red" Campbell, Sr., of Westminster, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Rev. James R. and Corrine Lemons Hammond. 

Ruth was a Christian of Wesleyan faith and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Lyman where she belonged to the Adult Sunday School Class. She loved being outside in her garden and loved animals. Also, she retired from Garretts Department Store as a purchaser.

Ruth is survived by son, Walter R. Campbell, Jr. (Linda) of Williamston; a daughter, Angelina Gilstrap Ross (Andy) of Westminster; a sister, Dr. Mary Hammond of Pickens; eleven grandchildren, Tanya, Cody, Joseph, Carrie Ellen, Sean, Drew, Luke, Ryan, Karen, Destiny, and Richard James "RJ"; fourteen great-grandchildren, Eden, Kent, Aiden, Payton, Parker, Candice, Jamie, Brayln, Emma, Zayleigh, Mason, Miyleigh, Michael, and Bridgette; and four great-great-grandchildren, Levi, Arianna, Alyssa, and Jasper.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Anne Gilstrap Dawson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the funeral home.
