Ruth Long Putney

Ruth Long Putney, 88, of Cooper City, FL, and Central, SC, died on Monday, August 26, 2013, in Cooper City, FL. She was the wife of the Rev. Dr. Everett Putney. She was born in Greentown, IN, on August 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Everett Ashby Long and Gertrude Alice Brooke Long.
She was a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. She married Everett Putney on August 9, 1948 in Greentown, IN. She retired from the Broward County Florida school system. She served as a church musician at many of the Wesleyan churches that her husband pastored in Indiana and Florida. Most recently, she was a member of New Horizon United Methodist Church, Cooper City, FL, where she served as organist for 15 years.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 65 years, are children Dawn Newton of Central, Dr. Nathan Putney and wife Brenda of Appomattox, VA, and Deanna Tegen and husband Charles of Central; a brother, David Long of Greentown, IN; grandchildren Michael Putney, Stacie Newton, Dana Harvey and husband Lane, Matthew Tegen and wife Justine, Jason Tegen and wife Kelley, Jon Putney and wife Katie, and Travis Tegen; and great-grandchildren Levi Tegen and Evan Harvey.
A memorial service will be held at New Horizon United Methodist Church in Cooper City FL, on Wednesday, August 28, at 3:00pm.
Visitation will be held at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central, SC, on Saturday, August 31, at 2:00 pm with the funeral following at 3:00 pm.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Central.
