Ruth Pressley Rampey

Ruth Willene Pressley Rampey was born to Rev. F. H and Mrs. Lillian Knight Pressley in Iva, SC, on May 10, 1923 and went to be with her Lord on May 25, 2016.

She was married for 73 years to Rev. W. Marshall Rampey, who died five days earlier.  She is survived by a son, Rev. W. Marshall “Buddy” (Joan) Rampey, Jr.; a daughter, Martha Ruth Rampey; four grandchildren, Marian (Lance) Vischer, Matt (Michelle) Rampey, Aaron (Liz) Rampey, Rev. Emily (Rev. Matt) Miller; and thirteen great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister, Evangeline (Herschel) Smith.  She is predeceased by one son, Paul Norman Rampey; four brothers: Levi, Correll, Charles and Arthur “Todd”; five sisters: Inez Mauldin, Cornelia Padgett, Cleo Acrey, Julia Cox  and Juanita Hill.

She graduated from Pelzer High School and attended Southern Wesleyan University. 

Mrs. Rampey was a devoted wife, loving and supporting her late husband . . . a beautiful complement to his 54 years of local pastoral ministry. She was a gifted musician, Sunday School teacher and demonstrator of hospitality.  She was a loving, nurturing, supportive and encouraging mother to her three children. Later in her life she became a substitute teacher in District 5 schools in Spartanburg County, eventually serving as the study hall teacher at James F. Byrnes High School,

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 28, at ALIVE Wesleyan Church, 136 Chastain Road, Central, SC.  Presiding ministers are Dr. Fred Andrews and Rev. Emily Miller. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 2:00pm in Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC. The family will be at the home of Buddy and Joan Rampey at 103 Jameson Drive, Piedmont, SC.
