Ruth Palmer Southerland, age 92, wife of the late Harold Edward Southerland, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Seneca, Mrs. Southerland was a daughter of the late Clifton Reed and Florence Compton Palmer. She graduated from Liberty High School, and she was a longtime employee of Sangamo Electric in Pickens. Mrs. Southerland was a member of Park Street Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and she enjoyed sewing in her alteration shop.
Surviving are a son, Brett Southerland and his wife, Andrea, of Easley; a grandson, Devin Reed Southerland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Southerland was predeceased by a son, Harold Edward (Hal) Southerland, Jr.; two brothers, Jack Palmer and Sgt. Joe Palmer; and two sisters, Margaret Palmer Norris and Jennie Palmer Swayngham.
Funeral services will be 12:30 PM Friday at Park Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM Friday at Park Street Baptist Church prior to the service.
The family is at the home of Brett and Andrea Southerland, 119 Arcadian Lane, Easley, SC 29642.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 114 Robinson Avenue, Easley, SC 29640 or Pickens County Humane Society, P.O. Box 83, Liberty, SC 29657 or the charity of one's choice.
