Six Mile
Salena Parrish Griffin, passed away Monday, January 26, after an active, happy life of 95 years.She was a member of the Pickens First Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
Born in Easley, SC on October 09, 1913, to Oscar S. and Lily Cunningham Parrish and had 9 brothers and sisters. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Sarratt of Easley and a sister-in-law Ernestine (Benson) Parrish, also of Easley.
Her wonderful marriage to John F. Griffin of Six Mile lasted more than 70 years and they had four children. They are John (Marie) Griffin of Charleston, Randy (Lynne) Griffin of Six Mile, Jim (Jeanne) Griffin of Lexington and Laura (Bruce) Lindler of Cartersville, GA. Her thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren gave her great joy.
Mrs. Griffin was a graduate of Lander University and taught elementary school for 32 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Sorority, a national honor society for educators.
She was devoted to her church and her Sunday School class. She loved to travel and adored her family.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pickens First Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Fred Stone, Dr. Ray Allen and Rev. Tim Samples. Burial will follow in the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
The body will be placed in the church at 12:15 p.m.
The family is at their respective homes.
