Samuel Texas Hoover, 59, died surrounded by his two sons on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 25, 1963, the son of Wayne Hoover and Roberta Jensen.
Sam grew up in lots of different places and graduated from Martin County High School in Florida where he set many cross-country running records. Sam was accepted to the University of Florida where he had too much fun and was encouraged to join the Air Force to finish his AA degree abroad. Sam served 6.5 years as a radar technician in Okinawa, Japan, and in Germany at Hahn Air Force Base. Once out of the service, he moved to South Florida, where he worked for Motorola for 12 years and finished his bachelor’s degree at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida in software engineering. Sam raised his two boys and worked at Clemson University for 17 years as a mobile app developer for CCIT. Sam loved college football and was a diehard fan of the University of Florida Gators.
Sam is survived by his two sons, Zachary Hoover of Greenville and Joshua Hoover of Pendleton. Sam was the eldest of his siblings: Adam Hoover, Mark Hoover, and Sharon Hoover.
A Memorial service with military honors will be at 1 PM, Friday, March 10 at Duckett – Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road in Central. The family will receive friends at 12 PM prior to the service.
