Samuel O. Jewell, Jr.

Samuel Oscar Jewell, Jr., 81, of 5202 Highway 86, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Rainey Hospice House of Anderson.
Born in Easley on June 10, 1927, Mr. Jewell was a son of the late Samuel Oscar and Essie Browning Jewell. He retired from Thomas Howard and was a member and former deacon of Powdersville First Baptist Church. He had been a volunteer fireman, and a volunteer with the building and activities of Better Skills. He was recognized for his volunteer service in Pickens County with a Jefferson Award Certificate and a home named in his honor. He never met a stranger and always had a smile. Mr. Jewell was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine years, Patsy Ann Parrish Jewell of the home; sons, Mike Jewell (Meg) and Russell Jewell (Melissa); daughters, Becky Ledford (Ken) and Sandy Jewell; grandchildren; Nick and Anna Jewell, Kenneth Ledford III and Amanda Fehr (Carl); brother, Raymond B. Jewell (Liz) of Aiken; sister, Emmie Workman (Bud) of Woodruff; and a sister-in-law, Sally Baker of Easley. Mr. Jewell was predeceased by a brother-in-law, John Baker; a brother, Arthur; sisters, Virginia Meyer, Lucille Northcutt, Geneva Hayes, Madge Jewell; and recently his grandchild, Derek Samuel Ledford.
Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Powdersville First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Saturday and will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM Sunday.
