Samuel Walker Porter, Sr., 88, husband of Doris Summey Stephens Porter, died at his home on Thursday, August 2, 2007. He was a native of Pickens County and was the son of the late Nelson D. and Lula Willimon Porter. He was a WW II veteran of the US Navy and served on the Mona Island. He worked at Clemson University and before his retirement he was the maintenance supervisor at Tri-County Tech. He was a charter member of the East Clemson Baptist Church and attended the Cannon Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Betty Jo "B.J." Lesh and her husband George of Belton; sons: Sam W. Porter, Jr. and wife Teresa of Tamassee, Ralph Porter and wife Nancy of Seneca and step-son Ricky Summey of Townville; brothers: Garvin E. Porter of Sunset and Roy D. Porter of Savannah, GA; 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife: Maggie J. Henderson Porter, his second wife: Nancy Jones Porter; sisters: Flora Mae Stone, Montez Meece; brother Marvin Porter and a step-daughter: Janice Summey.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home on Saturday at 11am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
