Sara Margaret Worley Clayton Central, S.C.

Sara Clayton, age 76, the devoted wife of William T. Clayton, passed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, August 7, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Sara, of Simms School Road, Central, South Carolina was a native of Ball Ground, Georgia and the daughter of the late Dennis and Jewel Hasty Worley. In addition to her husband of over 50 years, she is survived by a daughter, Susan Davis and her husband, Phillip of Smyrna, Georgia. "Gammy's" grandchildren and great-grandson filled her with joy. They are Stephen Davis, his wife Brandi, and great-grandson, Noah, of Central, South Carolina and Elizabeth Davis of Smyrna, Georgia. She is also survived by one brother, Charles Worley and his wife, Janice, of Rome, Georgia, her sister-in-law Elree Worley of Canton, Georgia, her brother-in-law, Ramsey Clayton of Central, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Clyde Worley of Canton, Georgia and her father and mother-in-law, Paul and Rachel Ramsey Clayton of Central. The Clayton family is eternally grateful for the continual love and support of Edward and Tracy Reynolds and their sons Elijah and Isaiah.

Sara was a graduate of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She taught Home Economics at D.W. Daniel High School for 27 years. She was an encourager to her students, her family, and her friends and she desired for each of them to achieve their very best.

Sara was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Central where she was actively involved with the United Methodist Women, and for years acted as a wedding coordinator at the church. She was also an active participant for many years in the Pickens County Farm Bureau.


A celebration of Sara's life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kurt McPherson officiating. The committal service will follow at Sharon Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 11, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central, South Carolina.

Memorial contributions honoring Sara may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, PO Box 186, Central, SC 29630.
