Sara Gambrell

March 31, 1924 — June 5, 2015

Sara Willis Gambrell, 91, of Clemson, and wife of the late Hugh Morris Gambrell, died peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2015 at her home.

She was born on March 31, 1924 in Owings, SC and was a daughter of the late John Cleon and Alva Stoddard Willis. She was a graduate of Gray Court/Owings High School and Lander College.

Mrs. Gambrell was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church for fifty years, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Abigail Dorcas Circle, and a member of the Garden and Women's Club and several bridge clubs. She was employed by Clemson University for thirty seven years.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Gambrell Hoffmann (Bill) of Greenville and Janet Gambrell Dillon (Bub) of Fair Play, SC; her twin sister, Sadie Willis Rice of Greenville, and her sister, Jane Willis Craddock of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Katie Hoffmann Warner, Drew Hoffmann, Sara Hoffmann Lumpkin and Olivia Dillon; great grandchildren, Isaiah and Jonathan Lumpkin, Annie Kate and Drew Warner.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Buck Willis and sisters, Dorothy Willis Owings and Katie Willis Given.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Clemson United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
