Sarah C. Couch - Clemson, SC
Sarah Crenshaw Couch, 88, formerly of Clemson, died August 19, 2007
at Life Care Center of Charleston. Born November 25, 1918 in Red Hill, GA, she was
the daughter of the late Matthew Lee and Mattie McCay Crenshaw and grew up in Pendleton. She was predeceased by her husband, James Houston Couch, two sisters, Mary C. Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mildred C. Alford of Ackerman, MS;
four brothers, Horace, William and Edward Crenshaw, all of Pendleton, and Harold Crenshaw of Easley. Surviving in addition to her daughter Dorothy C. Stafford and her husband Jerry of Charleston are a grandson, Geoffrey Stafford of St. Louis and a granddaughter, Joanna Brabham and her husband Ben of Charleston; a son, James Frances Couch and his wife Barbara of Lawrenceville, Ga. and their daughters, Kim Allison and Tammy Bridgewater, and their three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ms. Couch was a graduate of Pendleton High School and Forrest College in Anderson. She served for 18 years as church secretary of First Baptist Church of Clemson and later for 16 years as an associate in the Placement Office at Clemson University. She was author of a book on the Martin Stanley McCay Family and Related Lines and was a member of the John C. Calhoun Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy,
the Andrew Pickens chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Foundation for Historic Restoration in the Pendleton Area, the South Carolina Genealogical Society and the Historical Society of South Carolina. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Old Stone Church in Clemson.
