Lewis Scott Putnam, 46, husband of Cathy Putnam, died Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born September 30, 1961, he was the son of the late Lewis Franklin Putnam and Carol Jeanette Putnam of Anderson. Scott was a man of faith and strong love for his family, community and church. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Central where he served as a deacon and was a former Sunday School teacher with the Youth Class and also as a Vacation Bible School leader. He and his wife, Cathy, were founders of "Hands of Hope", a tutoring program for elementary children. His dedication to helping widows and children were evident in his daily life. Scott was a dedicated employee of Duke Energy and he was also a State Constable. His love for football shined throughout his life. He played football in high school, college and some semi-pro football with various teams in the Greenville area. He also coached football for Central little league teams and also for Edwards Middle School.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jay and daughter, Kristen; brothers, John Putnam of Troutman, NC, Gene Putnam of Rock Hill, SC; sisters, Angie Clark of Belton, Jodi Martin of Anderson and Vicki Stephenson of Belton; nieces and nephews, Ryan Stephenson, Russell Wilcox, Chelsey Putnam, Kristi Hampton, Jacob and Grayson Elder, Hannah Sexton, Madelyn and Tate Evatt and his father and mother-in-law, James and Alice Evatt of Central; great-niece, McKenzie Hampton; and a great-nephew, Trevor Wilcox.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at First Baptist Church Central with Reverend Tony Qualkinbush officiating.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the memory of Scott Putnam in honor of widows and childrens ministries to First Baptist Church, 207 Johnson Road, Central, SC 29630.
