J. Seldon Greene, 95, of Easley, South Carolina, departed this life on August 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his children.
Seldon was born at home in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee in Del Rio on June 30, 1929. He was the son of the late Swan and Carrie Hall Greene.
He married Mildred in 1962 and was her constant companion until her death. She was the love of his life, and he was devoted to her memory until his very last days.
He graduated as the valedictorian of Cosby High School and later earned his Bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University.
Throughout his career, he worked as a public school teacher and accountant for Daniel Construction. In 1966, he joined Greenville Hospital System and retired after approximately 31 years of service in finance and risk management. He was a Christian and member of Edgewood Church of Christ in Greenville, and he read his Bible daily.
He loved gardening, growing azaleas, having a nice roaring fire in his brick fireplace during the winter months, and watching Clemson football and ACC basketball games. Still, most of all, he loved all his Buicks, especially his 1963 red and white Buick Wildcat.
Seldon is survived by his son, Kevin Greene (Prudence) of Mauldin; his daughter, Kristie Hodge (Mitch) of Nashville, TN; and his three grandchildren, Riley, Bree, and Isabelle.
In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert, Nelson, Scott, and Jerry Greene, as well as his sisters, Ruth Boothe and Amber Holley.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Edgewood Church of Christ, Greenville. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the church.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Martha, who has been Dad’s live-in caregiver for the past several years. We would also like to thank Charlene and Deanna for their assistance in his care and his nephews and nieces, who have cared for and visited him over the years. Additionally, we want to acknowledge the exceptional care provided by the entire Hospice of the Upstate staff during the final months of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Upstate, 225 Halton Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
