Seth Schafer Heimlich, 70, died in a car wreck on Thursday, November 20, 2008 in Clemson, S.C.
He was born on September 24, 1938 in Florence, SC to the late Chester S. Heimlich, M.D., and Bernice Schafer Heimlick. He graduated from Marion Military Institute, Marion, Alabama, and served as an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. He earned his M.Ed. and Education Specialist degrees from Clemson University. He was Director of the Pickens County Adult Education program from 1970 until his retirement in 1995, and was a past president of South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors. He served on the board of the Pickens County Council on Aging, was a past president of the Clemson Area Arts Council, and collaborated with the Pickens County Literacy Association and Pickens County Service Organization. Seth was active in the Oconee County Habitat for Humanity, and served on the Board of the Pickens County Cultural Commission.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Doreen Feibusch Heimlich; son, Marc Heimlich; daughter, Larissa Heimlich Hepler; son-in-law, Christopher Hepler, baby granddaughter, Sophia Englander Hepler; all of Clemson, SC, and faithful companions "Whiski", "Lucy", and "Honey."
Burial with military honors will be at 2 p.m. on December 2, 2008 at the Veterans National Cemetery in Anderson, SC. A memorial service, celebrating Seth's life, will be held at 3 p.m., December 5th, 2008 at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship in Clemson, SC.
