Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Bradford "Brad" Thomas, 30, of 101 North Adams Court, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in Afghanistan.
Born in Asheville, NC, a son of Charles "Bud" and Marsha Sarfine Thomas of Easley, Brad was a graduate of Travelers Rest High School and attended Greenville Technical College. He was a Sgt. 1st Class with the 133rd Military Police Company of the South Carolina Army National Guard and was stationed in Afghanistan.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Jana Hickey Thomas of the home; a son, Cayden Thomas of the home; brother, Scott Thomas of Simpsonville; two sisters, Kelli Townsley of Knoxville, TN, and Tia Thomas of Easley; and his parents-in-law, Wayne Hickey and Tami Howell, both of Easley.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Childs and Rev. Dr. David Gallamore officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Nine Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
