Sheila McCoy

Sheila Watson McCoy, 96, widow of Dr. Stephen Murray McCoy, formerly of Brooklyn, NY and Southbury CT, died Saturday, October 4, 2014.
Born in Brooklyn NY, she was one of six children of Julia Kelleher and Thomas G. Watson. She attended boarding school, the Academy of St. Joseph, for 10 years and then Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn. She played the violin as a child and studied art in college. A helpmate and mother, she was also a gardener, sailor and was a great shot with a rifle and bow. She was the acknowledged financial brains of the family and especially enjoyed following the stock market; an avocation she excelled at.
She was a beautiful woman with flaming red hair which she passed down to her daughters and two great-grandchildren. After retiring to Southbury CT, Murray and Sheila travelled quite a bit and volunteered their time to various charities.
Surviving are daughters, Emily Meadow and husband Joseph Meadow III of Birmingham AL and Julie Porrello and Richard (Pete) Porrello of Salem SC; sister Brigid Ryan of Southbury CT; grandchildren Stephen Porrello, Sean Porrello, Courtney Porrello, Sheila Montgomery, Julie Waterman, Brigid Littleton, Joseph Meadow IV, Murray Meadow and 10 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be 12:30, Sunday, October 26, 2014 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Clemson SC.
