Sherwood Ellenburg, 80, of 905 North A Street, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at Anderson Area Medical Center, after a long, courageous battle.

Born in Easley, Mr. Ellenburg was a son of the late Earnest McClellan Ellenburg and the late Lillie Stewart Ellenburg Nation. He started his working career in 1945 in sales which led to ownership and operation of Ellenburg Trading Post, Ellenburg Finance, Shopping and Rental Center until 1976. He then worked as a furniture rep for fifteen years. After retiring from the furniture business, he and his son established Ellenburg Nursery and Landscaping, where he was active until his health failed.

Mr. Ellenburg was an avid hunter and a charter member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher as well as Training Union Director and choir member. Along with Dr. N.R. Lewis, he was instrumental in starting the Church Bus Ministry. He was a member of the greatest generation having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Reba Deck Ellenburg of the home; a son, Woody Ellenburg of the home; two daughters, Mickie Enlow of the home and Debbie Ellis and her husband, Joe, of Easley; two brothers, Charles Ellenburg of Hendersonville, NC, and Ralph Ellenburg of Liberty; three grandchildren, Samantha (Sam) Ellis Blackston and her husband, Bryan, of Easley, Jobe Ellis of Columbia and Elle Ellis of Easley; and one great-grandson, Caleb Samuel Blackston of Easley. Mr. Ellenburg was predeceased by an infant sister, Mary Lou; and brothers, Roy, Willie Earl, Lafoy, Jimmy and Jack.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday at Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Escort of Honor will be the Men's Bible Class and James Ralph Cantrell and Ernest "Buck" Sitton.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 PM Thursday and will be placed in the church at 2:00 P.M. Friday.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 501 Rampey Street, Easley, SC 29640.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Charles Wadee and Dr. John D. Ware for their wonderful care and compassion during Mr. Ellenburg's illness. We would also like to thank all the nurses and staff, who so wonderfully cared for him the many times he was a patient at Anderson Area Medical Center. Also, the family members extend their thanks to Interim Healthcare and all other caregivers.
