February 10, 1954 — August 17, 2019

Sheryl Doyen-Gonzales
Piedmont, SC

Sheryl Doyen-Gonzales went from being surrounded by her loving family to peacefully passing into her Heavenly home on Saturday evening, August 17, 2019.

Sheryl (Sheri) was born in Caro, Michigan, where she was warmly welcomed into her family.

Growing up, she enjoyed summers with her sister and brother swimming and playing in the Clam River at her grandparents' cabin in northern Michigan.

Even as a child, her gentle loving nature showed through as she would adopt local strays and care for their injuries to help them recover.

During her teen years, she enjoyed living in town, spending time with her friends, working as a waitress at the local restaurant, and was a cheerleader for Cass City High School.

Later, she moved to the country where she raised horses, cows, and other farm animals. She married Lawrence Farnum in 1979 and had two daughters.

She loved animals and would often feed the wild birds and animals. She later moved to Fairgrove and made many friends there.

Afterward, she lived in Florida for several years before returning to Michigan and meeting her beloved husband Marcello Gonzales. They moved to South Carolina where they got married and spent many happy years together mentoring troubled teens, recovering houses, caring for foster children, traveling, and enjoying life.

Sheryl started work with COMSET at Clemson University, where she felt she'd found her work "home." As one of the founding employees of the Center, she watched it grow and thrive into a successful research branch of Material Science & Engineering and it was very special to her. She made deep and lasting friendships there that were very dear to her.

Sheri was always giving and loving to others, always trying to solve other people's problems. She was a bright light in the world that will be missed so much. She loved her family, her friends, the ocean, and the mountains. She loved life and it loved her right back.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father Mary Partlo Doyen and Patrick Doyen, her ex-husband Larry Farnum, brother-in-law Gary Rosteutcher, and many dear friends and family members.

She is survived by her husband Marcello (Chach) Gonazles of Piedmont, SC; her two daughters Christa Michael of Pelzer, SC and Amanda Farnum of Mauldin, SC; her four step-children Kayla Pilar of Saginaw, MI, Matt Gonzales of Millington, MI, Sarah Thompson of Piedmont, SC and Austin Gonzales of Caro, MI; 7 grandchildren; her siblings Sandra Rosteutcher of Fountain Inn, SC; and Dale Doyen of Cass City, MI, and three sons-in-law, Devon Thompson of Piedmont, SC, Rudy Pilar of Saginaw, MI, and Stephen Michael of Pelzer, SC.
