Clemson

Sheryl S. Shoup, 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2025, after spending her final months at Clemson Downs in Clemson, S. C.

Born on February 17, 1936, in Sharon, Pa., Sheryl was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Sholtis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Shoup. She shared many years with longtime companion Sam George and her later years with longtime companion Bill Pommersheim and their families.

Sheryl built a full and joyful life centered around family, friends, and community. Sheryl raised her family in Tulsa, Okla. She lived many years in New Castle, Pa., before moving full time to a neighborhood she loved in Hobe Sound, Fla. In her last few months, she moved to South Carolina to be closer to family.

She was an enthusiastic bridge player, a golfer, a passionate traveler who loved cruising, and she embraced new experiences with warmth and curiosity. At home, she spent as much time as possible outside. She loved to walk in the woods and birdwatch. She was also a gifted baker, well-known among family and friends for her delicious pies and cookies. If there was a party or event, Sheryl loved to be there and was always on time.

A devoted volunteer for many years, Sheryl gave generously of her time to Meals on Wheels, embodying her deep commitment to helping others. She was also a longtime member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Pa.

She is survived by her loving children, George Shoup (Mona) of Santa Fe, N. M., and Eydie Clement (Robert) of Sunset, S. C. Sheryl will be remembered for her kindness, her love of laughter, her warm hospitality, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clemson Downs, Via Health Partners, and The Key for the loving care and attention Sheryl received.

If you wish to make a gift in Sheryl’s honor, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Pickens County, (S.C.) Meals on Wheels, continuing Sheryl’s legacy of service to others.
