Denver P. "Skeet" Gaines, 77 of Easley, husband of Thelma Boroughs Gaines, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born October 6, 1937 in Hartwell, Georgia he was a son of the late Guy and Pauline Gaines.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, he is survived by his daughters Terri Gaines-Marlow (L.Cpl. F. Weldon Marlow) of Easley, Dr. Robin Gaines (Dr. David Maziarz) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandsons Bo Gaines (Kayla), Benjamin Marlow, Lachlan Maziarz; granddaughters Harper Maziarz, and Julia Claire Maziarz; two brothers, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of both Parker High School and Greenville Technical College, and served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Stone Manufacturing after over forty years of service. He also retired from The Clemson University Police Department and was a retired South Carolina State Constable.

Mr. Gaines was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was previously a member of Judson Masonic Lodge and a current member of Bates Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of Easley Chapter 200 Order of the Eastern Star.

Skeet loved his family passionately. He was an avid gardener and had already begun planning the spring crops.

In his own words, "Believing that we will all be together with Lauren, I'll not say good-bye - See you when I see you. Love, Skeet".

We his family feel quite certain he is now strolling the streets of Heaven hand in hand with granddaughter Lauren Sophia Maziarz.

In addition to his granddaughter, he was predeceased by older brother Pete Gaines.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cookies for Kids Cancer,
www.cookiesforkidscancer.org, or St. Baldricks Foundation, www.stbaldricks.org, two charities he supported to find a cure for children's cancer.
