Sophie Fisher McKissick of Greenville, South Carolina and Litchfield Lakes, Litchfield Beach, S.C., passed away Wednesday morning, October 6, 2010.




Mrs. McKissick was born April 10, 1932 in Gastonia, North Carolina and grew up in Pelzer, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Fisher. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Fisher Kinross, her daughter, Jean Glover McKissick, and her beloved husband, the late A. Foster McKissick, II. She is survived by her sister, Betty Fisher Fuller of Dalton, Georgia, and her six children and their spouses: Anthony M. McKissick of Key West, Florida, Anthony Foster McKissick, III, and his wife Murray of Greenville, Charles Fisher McKissick and his wife Julie of Greenville, James Rion McKissick of Gray Court, Sally McKissick Coen and husband Richard of Charleston, South Carolina, and James Powers McKissick and wife Elizabeth of Greenville. Sophie is also survived by eleven grandchildren and life long family friend, Tinker Patterson.

Sophie graduated from Greenville High School and attended Furman University. She was an active member of Carolina Foothills Garden Club, The Assembly, Brookgreen Gardens and was also an avid tennis player. She had a special love for all animals, including dogs and especially cocker spaniels.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville at 11:00 am Friday, October 8. The family will be at the home of Foster and Murray McKissick, 245 McDaniel Avenue and will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, The Greenville Humane Society, 328 Furman Hall Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29609 or to a charity of one's choice.
