Staff Sergeant Edvin F. Franco

Hinesville, GA

Staff Sergeant Edvin Francisco Franco, 25, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2025, while serving his country in the United States Army while stationed in Lithuania.

Born on December 23, 1999, in Burbank, CA to parents Edvin R. Franco and Lourdes Arriaga Franco, he was of Christian faith.

He is survived by his loving wife Georgia Chappell Franco; infant son, Preston Carlos Franco; sisters, Alexandra Reyes and Olga L. Perla; brother, David Franco; fraternal grandmother, Julia Angelica Franco; and maternal grandparents, Cesar Augusto Santis and Amanda E. Arriaga de Santis.

He was predeceased by a great-grandmother, Martha Flores; great-grandfather, Pedro Franco; and aunt, Celia Franco.

Family meant everything to Edvin. He loved his wife deeply and took immense pride in being a father to their son. The love they shared was palpable, a testament to a life built on joy, companionship, and mutual respect.

Edvin proudly served in the U.S. Army for over six years, joining right after high school in 2018. His military service became an integral part of his identity, leading him through three deployments. He served in Korea in 2020 and Germany in 2022, leading to him receiving several awards and decorations. Affectionately known as the "Donkey Crew”, he was currently part of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. The camaraderie developed during these times created strong bonds that felt more like family, as they navigated both challenges and triumphs together. Edvin was a great leader who had tenacity and drive, never asking more of his soldiers than he was willing to give himself. He shared a closeness with his fellow soldiers that could never be matched.

Beyond his military service, Edvin was a lover of all things related to Star Wars and Legos. His passion for these hobbies reflected his playful spirit and creativity, whether he was engaging in thrilling conversations about galaxies far away or building intricate masterpieces with colorful bricks. These interests were not just pastimes, but expressions of his boundless imagination, drawing those around him into his self-proclaimed "nerdy" world.

Edvin’s bright spirit and infectious laugh brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Edvin’s smile shone like a beacon; he had a remarkable ability to light up any room with his comedic banter. His innate sense of humor could elevate even the most ordinary of moments, turning them into cherished memories.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Veteran’s section of Robinson Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

As we celebrate Edvin’s life, we remember a soul who was always helpful, whose laughter brightened our lives, and whose love for his family and military brotherhood knew no bounds. He may no longer be with us, but his spirit will forever resonate in our hearts, reminding us to cherish every moment, to find joy in the simplest of things, and to spread laughter wherever we go. Edvin will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
