Stephen Cofield Griffin

April 8, 1974 — March 26, 2017

Stephen C. Griffin
Chicago, IL

Stephen Cofield Griffin, born April 8, 1974, the beloved husband of Kara Pendleton Griffin, and beloved son of Tommy and Jackie Griffin of Powdersville, SC, and beloved grandson of Jack C. Howie of Greenville, SC passed away March 26, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. He is predeceased by his grandmothers, Sue Wood Howie and Hettie Childress Griffin Hindman.
Stephen attended Concrete Elementary School, Wren Middle and Wren High Schools. He played football, baseball, and basketball in the Wren Youth Leagues, and electric bass in the Wren High School Jazz Band. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC throughout his youth, and served the church in various capacities.
Stephen had interests in varied fields. He loved music and had a natural artistic talent. In his youth he volunteered, with his father, as a first responder for Squad One EMS, and in political campaigns of local government.
He was a proud graduate of the Citadel where he excelled in leadership in Tango Company, was a member of the Summerall Guards, and was on the Dean's list. He and his Citadel "brothers" forged a bond that was never broken throughout his life. He was especially appreciative of his Citadel years and the experiences and opportunities for learning and leadership that he had there. After graduation he made a career in sales and marketing in the internet security business and won numerous awards in the field. It was during this time that he made many new friends from all over the country and greatly enjoyed the time they spent together.
Stephen was a most kind and generous man to many people and causes. He had a most special love for his wife Kara, and enjoyed the antics of their French bulldog, Hank.
