Steve Brookshire, 71, of Travelers Rest, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, surrounded by his large, loving family. Born in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Willie Lee Brookshire and the late Ella Mae Bryant Brookshire. He attended Heart of Worship Church in Greer, SC. Steve was a man defined by his immense love for his family and his friends.
He was proud of his ever-growing family. As a devoted father and grandfather, Steve took great pride in being a “Daddy” to his children and “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was his world; he adored them deeply and made every effort to be present in their lives. He was also a dear friend to many, never meeting a stranger.
Steve cherished the moments spent with his five brothers, creating bonds that would last a lifetime. His laughter and camaraderie were a source of comfort and joy to those who knew him. He had a big heart and an infectious laugh, he embraced everyone around him, always ready to lend a helping hand or give advice.
Steve was a semi-truck driver for Hicks Enterprise and Supreme Tool. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States for his close friend and businessowner, Frank Hicks. For decades, driving was not merely a career for Steve; it was a calling. He found joy in the rhythm of the highway, the hum of the engine, and the ever-changing landscapes that unfurled before him like pages in a well-thumbed book. Each journey was filled with the sights and sounds of a life lived in motion, a testament to his adventurous spirit. He took pride in being a part of the vast tapestry of the trucking community, forging connections with fellow drivers and creating lasting memories on the road.
An avid Gamecock football fan, Steve’s passion for the sport was a testament to his spirited personality. He found joy in cheering for his team and shared many wonderful moments with family and friends during game days. Additionally, his enthusiasm for NASCAR racing was another layer of his vibrant character, as he reveled in the thrill of the race.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by first wife, Cathey Huffman Brookshire and second wife, Sylvia Teresa Chapman Brookshire; brother, Willie Lee Brookshire, Jr. and bonus daughter, Rhonda Rodriguez.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, Gladys Margaret "Missy" Ruff Brookshire, he is survived by daughters, Tracy Aguilar Hernandez (Luis), Jody Hernandez (Gaudencio), Penny Smith (Cory), Connie Ruff and Brenda Rojas; brothers, Billy Brookshire (Heather), Randy Brookshire and Michael Brookshire; grandchildren, Steven, Miguel, Chelsie (Harvey), Felipe, Elena (Jonathan), Enrique, Luis, Jr., Paco and Hugo; bonus grandchildren, Angelica, Leo, Jr., Cesar, Melina; great-grandchildren, Karenton, Braeden, Josiah, Damon, Lilly, Lucia, Ezra, Onyx, baby Lana and Elaine; 17 bonus great-grandchildren; special nephew, Tony Lee Brookshire and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. The family will also receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:15 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with his celebration of life to follow at 12:30 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery West.
The family will be at the home of daughter, Tracy Aguilar Hernandez (Luis).
Though he has now taken his final journey, the imprint he left on all who knew him is indelible. Steve Brookshire was more than just a truck driver; he was a storyteller, a friend, and a seeker of the extraordinary in the ordinary. As we remember him, let us take to heart the lessons he imparted through his life, those of adventure, resilience, and the importance of every mile traveled. His memory will forever echo in the spaces he filled and the hearts he touched along the way.
