It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven ”Steve” Dean Swindoll, 59, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, who left us on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026.
Born in Natchez, Mississippi, and raised by his mother, Carolyn Anderson Swindoll, Steve was an active member in the youth group at Parkway Baptist Church. He graduated from South Natchez High School and went on to attend Mississippi State University, where he met Polly, the love of his life and wife of 32 years. He proceeded to earn a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration, respectively. He cared deeply for Mississippi State University and made many return trips to support the school’s various sports teams.
Steve and Polly built their life together in Easley, South Carolina, where they raised their son, Ian, and daughter, Skylan. He took joy in meticulously planning elaborate camping trips and family excursions. He never missed a chance to cheer on his kids, taking great pride in their sporting endeavors. He was known to wake up early and prepare a hearty breakfast on days when there was an important exam or a big game. He always made himself available to his children to talk, give advice, or simply listen so that they never felt unheard or alone.
Steve consistently made time for his interests and hobbies. He was a very involved member of Easley First United Methodist Church and steadfast in his faith. He took on various leadership roles and always found time to go on the annual Salkehatchie mission trip to help build and repair houses for those in need. He enjoyed hiking and trail-running, participating in several obstacle course races, and even completing a Spartan Trifecta with his good friend, Chris Heuvel. He had a passion for classic cars, eventually acquiring a stunning 1970 Corvette LT-1, which he aptly named “Evette”. His affection extended to the animals he cared for at home: a Shiba Inu, Suki, and two Peruvian Guinea pigs, Ben and Jerry.
Once the children moved out, he savored his time with his wife, Polly, to whom his commitment never wavered, and for whom he sought to provide a foundation of security, love, and stability.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife and two children. He also leaves behind his sister, Stacie Swindoll Gilheart (David); his sister-in-law, Sheila Watts (Coy); and a large, loving extended family of sisters - and brothers-in-law. In addition, many nieces and nephews: Sonny, Kevin, Steven, Russ, Poonum, Troy, Breeanna, Shelby, Nix, Griff, and Hollis. He is preceded in death by his sister, Kim Swindoll Weems.
Steve approached his life with a firm confidence, purpose, enthusiasm, and a trademark sense of humor. He leaves behind memories that will be treasured by those who knew him and were touched by his warmth and dedication. Though he has departed, the legacy of his strength, generosity, and love for life endures.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, May 24th at First United Methodist Church of Easley.
