Sue Scott Walthall, 75, wife of the late James Craig Walthall, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Born on December 15, 1949, in Chester County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Robert Clyde and Sarah Campbell Scott.
Sue was a proud graduate of Lewisville High School in Richburg, South Carolina, before obtaining her bachelor's degree from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. After graduation, Sue became a dedicated elementary school teacher, teaching more than 30 years. Having no biological children of her own, her students became her children and she dedicated her life to making theirs better. Following her retirement, she continued to be a substitute teacher in the Pamlico County school district of North Carolina, where she and her husband retired.
Sue was a dedicated Shrinette in Pamlico County and participated in many Shrine activities alongside her husband, Jim. She also spent her time crafting stained glass pieces that she gave as gifts to her family. She was also an avid walker and enjoyed walking her neighborhood and visiting with her neighbors along the way. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family. Sue was a wonderful storyteller and loved regaling her family with her tales.
Sue is survived by her stepson, James Russell Walthall (Wanda) of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughters Debbie Walthall Revis (Jeff) of Monroe, NC, and Christi Walthall Wuori (Dan) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren Amelia Wuori, Bee Wuori, Justin Walthall (Stephanie), Comea Walthall (Jordann), Michelle Walthall, James Walthall (Denny), Jamie Roberts, Jesse Funderburk (Sara), Jake Revis, Katie Revis (Daniel), and Josh Revis; and ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Robert Clyde Scott Jr. (Alanna) of Richburg, SC, and two sisters, Lynn Scott Friedman (Myron) of Seneca, SC, and Barbara Scott Partin (Phillip) of Camden, SC. She was adored by her nieces Allison Friedman Ragan (Paul), Sarah Partin John (Breeden), Helen Partin Byrns (Mike) and her nephews David Friedman, Kevin Friedman (Meghan), and Asher McCrorey, as well as her great nieces and nephews Stella and Sarah Ragan, Luke, Ila, and Avery Friedman, Buddy and Izzy John and Mackie Byrns.
After Sue was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she spent the last 21/2 years of her life as a resident of Clemson Downs, first in Creekside Cottage Memory Care and, finally, Clemson Downs Health Care Center. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the dedicated, caring staff who lovingly cared for Sue in her final years.
