Sue Hirama Wells, 95, passed away peacefully December 12, 2020 in the caring and compassionate Clemson Downs community.
Born October 11, 1925, a first-generation immigrant in Lamar Colorado, she left the family farm to complete her education at University of Colorado, an impressive accomplishment in the 1940's. She spent her life serving others, first as a nurse in the WWII Cadet Nurse Corps. She then enjoyed a career as a public health administrator in her much loved "home town" of Beaufort, SC.
She traveled the world in her retirement before moving to Clemson Downs to be close to her surviving sons, Craig Wells of Six Mile and John Wells of Clemson.
She was a loving grandmother to Ann Wells McGahey, Emily Wells Anderson, James, Stephen and Adam Wells; and a great-grandmother to Wells and Reid McGahey. Sue is also survived by one sister, Tomi Cheng, of Bellevue Washington.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no public service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or the charity of your choosing.
Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central is assisting the family.
