Sybil Holladay Funchess, 89, wife of almost 68 years of William H. Funchess, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in the Limestone Community of Orangeburg County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Leroy Clemson and Gladys Culler Holladay. She was a 1945 graduate of Orangeburg High School, a 1949 graduate of Winthrop College and earned her Masters Degree from Clemson University. She taught at Swansea, Yemassee, Cope, North and Daniel High Schools and later at Morrison Elementary School. She was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church a former choir member of Swallow Savannah United Methodist Church in Allendale, SC, garden clubs in Allendale and Clemson, SC; the Cotillion Club in Allendale; and Delta Kappa Gamma in Clemson.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Carol Rebecca Funchess Morgan of Powdersville, SC and Janet Marie Heriot of Dahlonega, GA; son, Mark Herbert (Jane) Funchess of Central; grandchildren, Ryan (Savannah) Bley, Ashley Heriot, Chandler Heriot, Connor Heriot, Cameron Heriot, Carson Funchess and Montana Caroline Morgan.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jo Holladay Funchess.
Funeral services will be 4 PM, Sunday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 PM, Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, 300 Frontage Road, Clemson, SC 29631.
