Sylvia Sowers Craft Bass, 86, wife of the late James Bass, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025. Born in Greenville, SC, on July 14, 1939, she a daughter of the late John Sowers and the late Bobbie Eskew Sowers. Sylvia was a previous member of Easley Presbyterian and was on staff there for many years. She was a current member of Russell Community Presbyterian Church.
Sylvia dedicated much of her life to her career as an auditor for Sears, from which she retired after 35 years of service. Those who knew her experienced her sweet and caring nature firsthand, as she poured love into everything she did.
Sylvia was not only committed to her work; she also held a deep dedication to her family. She was proud of each family member and cherished their accomplishments, often expressing her admiration through hand-written cards filled with heartfelt messages. Her ability to connect with loved ones through words was a testament to her loving spirit, as she often took time every day to write out prayers, listing names of those she treasured. Sylvia cherished her morning devotions, finding peace and purpose in reflecting on her spirituality. She had a love for reading, particularly the insightful works by Dr. Jeremiah, where she found joy and solace.
Sylvia was deeply involved in her community, particularly within Republican politics. Her passion for civic engagement allowed her the exciting opportunity to meet notable political figures. She was always on the go, devout in her active participation and advocacy.
One of her proudest accomplishments was her role on the board of Habitat for Humanity in Pickens County, where her hard work and determination contributed to bettering the lives of others. Her compassionate heart and commitment to helping those in need are enduring legacies of her generous spirit.
In addition to her beloved husband and her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Carol Anderson (Charles) and Kay Martin (Bud) and brother, Johnny Sowers.
Sylvia is survived by daughters, Therese Allen (Robert), Amelia Propes; son, Jimmy Bass; grandchildren, Heather Propes, Jessica Ballenger (Matt) and Michael Allen (Mary Margaret); great-grandchildren, Payton Reynolds, Addisyn Ballenger, Kade Ballenger and one on the way; special nieces and nephews, Frances, Charlie, Travis, Dallas and Phil and several other loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. The funeral service to honor her life will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel.
As we remember Sylvia, we celebrate the warmth she brought to those around her, the prayers she whispered for loved ones, and the countless cards she shared with heartfelt messages. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends.
