Thomas K. (Tom) Carter, 68, of Pendleton, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born in Asheboro, NC he was a son of the late William Abner and Ina Leigh Carter. Tom was a graduate of NC State University and was a veteran of the US Army, having served as a 1st Lt with the Corps of Engineers in Vietnam. He was employed for many years by the Westinghouse Corporation and retired from I & M Industrials. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pendleton for 31 years and served on various committees and as a deacon. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed duck-hunting, pig-cooking and collecting antiques.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret (Peggy) Timmerman Carter of the home; sons, William A. (Will) Carter II and wife, Sabrina of Visalia, CA and Price Timmerman Carter; grandson, Aiden Soper of Visalia, CA; brother, William A. (Bill) Carter and wife, Gail of Salisbury, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law Al Timmerman and Carol Norment and Tim Timmerman and wife Sally all of Greenville, SC, and John Timmerman and wife, Garland, of Chapin, SC.
Funeral services will be 3 PM, Friday at First Baptist Church of Pendleton with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 prior to the service at the church.
The family is at the home.
