Thomas "Tommy" Marion Tucker, 97, beloved husband of Melba Ridgway Tucker, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished. Born in Calhoun Falls, SC, to Thomas Mosley and Georgia Bassett Tucker, Tommy’s life was a testament to love, service, and joy.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Tommy served during the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant in just three months. His bravery was recognized with a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, and two battle stars. He served from 1950 to 1952, during which he was wounded and spent six months recovering in the hospital.
Tommy’s life was a beautiful blend of curiosity and hard work. As a dedicated entrepreneur, he built multiple successful businesses. However, his greatest joy came from being a loving family man, especially in his role as "Papa." He never missed a chance to cheer on his grandson, Tanner, at his baseball games, radiating pride and excitement with every play.
A true adventurer at heart, Tommy enjoyed traveling in his motor home. He loved boating and camping at the lake and along the coast, creating countless cherished vacation memories with his family. His zest for life was infectious, inspiring those around him to pursue their passions fearlessly.
Tommy was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Gibson, and her husband, Charles. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 45 years, Melba; sons, Mark Tucker (Kristen) and James McGee (Jane); daughter, Janet Capri (Joe); grandchildren, Carol, Adam, Jennifer, Tanner and Connor; his brother, George Harper Tucker (Juanita); sister, Annette Jackson (Billy).
From his previous marriage he leaves behind a son, Tommy Lane (aka Little Tommy); daughter, Sherilyn Nixon (Chad) and grandchildren, Harper, Harmony, Harrison, and Thomas; along with many great-grandchildren nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored him.
Tommy's adventurous spirit and inquisitive nature made him a beacon of inspiration. He loved learning and encouraging those around him to explore not just the world but their own potential.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 12:30 until 1:45 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church. A celebration of Tommy’s life will follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary, with burial at Robinson Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Palmetto Patriots Home (VA), 120 Hampshire Dr., Gaffney, SC 29341, in honor of the compassionate care Tommy received.
Tommy Tucker’s legacy is one of love, courage, and joy. As we celebrate his remarkable journey, we remember not just the man he was but the countless lives he touched. His memory will forever remind us to live fully, love deeply, and embrace every adventure life offers.
