Tony Robert Stapleton, 71, passed away on February 26, 2025. Tony was born in Chester, South Carolina to the late William Robert and Martha Stapleton.
Tony earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Clemson University, a place that held a special significance in his life. While at Clemson, he proudly performed in the Tiger Band, an experience that enriched his college years and showcased his passion for music and community. His love for Clemson extended beyond his student days; Tony was an enthusiastic supporter of Clemson University sporting events, always cheering for his team with great excitement and passion.
One of Tony's proudest accomplishments was co-founding the Clemson University Tiger Band Association (CUTBA), a testament to his commitment to fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie among musicians. Under Tony’s leadership, CUTBA has established over $2M in endowments in support of Tiger Band. A true monument to Tony’s passion and dedication to his love for Tiger Band.
Tony had a deep appreciation for the performing arts, and regularly attended shows at the Brooks Center and Peace Center. He loved poker nights, good food, and vacations to the South Carolina coast. Tony also cherished time spent fishing, enjoying the tranquility and pleasure it brought him.
Above all, Tony was a family man. He was a loving son and brother, and supported his children through their academic, personal, and professional pursuits. He treated his wife with the utmost care, devotion, and unconditional love.
Tony touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and community involvement. He will be remembered for his warm spirit and the love he shared with those around him.
Tony is survived by his cherished wife, Deborah Sue Stapleton, daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Stapleton; brother, Raymond Scott Stapleton; and sisters-in-law, Rhonda Grace Garrett, and Patricia Gayle Morris. In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by his son, James Robert Stapleton.
A Memorial Service in honor of Tony will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at The Cadden Chapel on Clemson University’s Campus (181 Jersey Lane). A reception will follow at the Brooks Center. Parking available in the Brooks Center Parking lot.
