Pastor Toy "Sonny" Reid, Jr., 77, of Easley, husband of the late Charlotte Anita Reid, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was the eldest of two sons of the late Toy I. Reid, Sr., and Ernestine P. Reid. Toy was a beloved pastor at the Living Waters Church in Greenville for over 30 years, and for decades he worked tirelessly in the fire protection industry to support his family and sustain his pastoral vocation.
He touched the lives of many with his unwavering dedication to his faith, his generosity, and his exceptional ability to find humor and a cause to smile in every situation. Sonny was not just a pastor but also a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who spread warmth and kindness to all those around him. He found solace and inspiration through studying the Bible and listening to Gospel music, deepening his own spiritual understanding while imparting valuable life lessons to others. Aside from his role as a pastor, Sonny had a passion for sports and cheering on all of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks’ teams (and teasing those who supported Clemson).
Toy is survived by three sons, Randy VanDusen (Andreia), Tim Reid (Gloria), and Toy Reid, III (Henry); a daughter, Laurie A. Burch (Jeff); a brother, Joe Reid (Lynn); eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Toy is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla Gayle Carathers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. The burial will follow the service in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
