Valerie Anne Paynter

Valerie Anne Griffiths Paynter, 78, widow of Malcolm James Benjamin Paynter died Monday, September 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Walsall, England, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Annie Coley Griffiths. She graduated with honors in 1960 from London University where she earned her BSc in Chemistry and her PhD in Plant Physiology from Clemson University in 1975.
Dr. Paynter was a professor at Clemson University for 15 years, had 26 publications in her academic field, was President of MSL, an environmental research and development lab, chairman on three grant committees from 1975-1992, and discovered a Factor that is used for bioremediation cleanup.
Surviving are daughters, Joey Paynter of Los Angeles, California and Sam Nelson and husband Blake of Simpsonville, SC; sister Audrey Hartley of Chelmsford, England; grandchildren, Jaxon and Kaden Nelson. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Jonathan and Jason Paynter.
Memorial services will be 2 PM, Friday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a member for 34 years.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parrish Hall of the church.
