Velma Whitt Sweet, 85, formerly of 202 Highland Road and widow of Walter Grover "Walt" Sweet, Sr., passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Hagood Wilson and Nannie Mae Brown Whitt, she was the former owner of the Minute Diner in Easley along with her husband for 26 years before retiring in 1996, and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and the Pastor's Auditorium Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son, Rev. Walter G. Sweet, Jr. and wife Debbie, of Easley; two daughters, Barbara S. Brockman and husband Jerry, of Greenville and Carol S. Bartlett and husband Gary of Belmont, NC; four grandchildren, Julie Smart and husband Andrew of Greenville, Josh Slaten and wife Heather of Lincolnton, NC, Brandy Slaten and fiance Jimmy Mexico of Belmont, NC and Emily Sweet of Easley; and five great grandchildren. In additon to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Waymond, Wilson, and Deforest Whitt; and a sister, Corrie Mae Cooper.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown with Rev. Dr. Roger Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

The family is at their respective homes.
