Vernon L. Shirley, 87, of 418 Old Shirley Road, husband of the late Lois Gunnells Shirley, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Augusta GA.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Sam and Ruby James Shirley, Mr. Shirley retired from the Pendleton Plant of Milliken Corp. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Navy in the Middle East.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Shirley of Central; four daughters, Brenda Whitman of Georgetown, TN, Linda Lackey of Plum Branch, Toni Rogers of Central and Cathi Heyrich of Brookeside, NJ; a brother, Billy K. Shirley of Central; a sister, Sara James of Central; twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Shirley was predeceased by a brother, Dwight Shirley and by two sisters, Louise Gooch and Helen Cobb.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley.
