DR. VICTOR HURST,
Clemson, S.C.
Dr. Victor Hurst, 94, husband of the late Henrietta Hurst, died Thursday at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca. A native of New Jersey he was the son of the late Albert E. and Sarah Schaefer Hurst. He was a graduate of Rutgers University and received his post-graduate degree from the University of Missouri. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Dr. Hurst retired as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University at Clemson University and was an Alumni Distinquished Professor. He was the Charter President of the Clemson Lions Club, a member of the S.C. Dairy Association Hall of Fame and was the Past National Chairman of the AARP.
He is survived by son William T. Hurst and wife Tommye of Seneca; daughters, Ann Hurst of Orangeburg, SC, Ellen Griffith and husband David of Trenton, NJ , Ruth Hurst and husband Tom Wiebe of Chapel Hill, NC and grandchildren: Victoria Hurst, Robert Hurst, Paul Griffith, Paige Griffith, Christopher Griffith and Parker Wiebe.
The family will receive friends on Sunday August 30, 3-6pm in the Clemson Downs Dining Room. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clemson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 590, Clemson, SC 29633 or to the Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
