Viola Richie Ford, 93,of Clemson, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Clemson Area Retirement Center.
Mrs. Ford was the widow of the late John M. Ford and a daughter of the late Alfred and Lucy Richie.
She was born in Gastonia, NC, and attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Ford taught and coordinated the three and four year old weekday kindergarten at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a faithful member of Fort Hill, where she taught children's classes, was circle chairman and held a honorary life membership in the Presbyterian Women. Among her varied interest were her garden club and volunteer work throughout the community.
Surviving are two sons, John M. Ford III (Ann)
of Charleston, David R. Ford of Clemson; two daughters, Catherine McInnis(Tom), of Clemson, and Martha Brooks, of Liberty; three granddaughters, Christy Allen (Jeff), Summer Conrad (Cooper) all of Charleston,
and Kelly Turner of Loganville, GA; three grandsons, Bill Welsh, of Clemson, Richie Ford (Rebecca), of Senoia, GA, and Jacob Brooks of Liberty.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ford was predeceased by, two sisters, Lovera Marley and Helen Carpenter; three brothers, Therman, Ralph, and Frank Richie and a grandson, Jeremy Brooks.
Burial will be in Old Stone Church Cemetery, located at the intersection of Hwy. 76 and Old Stone Church Rd., at 1:30 PM, Sunday, June 23, 2013, with a service to follow at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 Edgewood Ave., Clemson, SC 29631.
The family will be at the McInnis home, 206 Wescott Dr., Clemson, SC 29631.
