Virginia W. Evans

August 31, 1921 — March 8, 2008

Virginia Williams Evans, 86, widow of Lt. Col. (ret.) James G. Evans, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Anderson Area Medical Center. A native of Seneca she was the daughter of the late Hiram J. and Minnie Gambrell Williams. She was an exceptional mother and career Army wife who traveled the world with her husband and family. She was active and involved in community life until her death.

She is survived by daughters: Janet Tippett and husband Roger of Murrell's Inlet, SC, Virginia Anne Neal and husband Dick of San Antonio, TX, and Jamie Nimmo and husband Jim of Seneca. She is also survived by all 6 of her siblings, brothers: Harold Williams and wife Janie of Walhalla, Jerry Williams and wife Sarah of Anderson, sisters: Mildred Rackley of Seneca, Evelyn Dilworth and husband Cecil of Florence, Edna McAbee of Pendleton and Faye Guy and husband Joe of Seneca; 7 grandchildren: Mitch, Matt, Greg and Kelly Tippett, Amy Shaffer, Katherine and Grace Clark; great-grandchildren: Charlie and William Shaffer and Grady and Henry Tippett. She is also survived by sister-in-laws: Muriel E. Snodgrass of Columbia and Sue E. Snyder of Brevard, NC.

Funeral services will be Monday at 3pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson. The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 2-3pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Helping Hands of Clemson, PO Box 561, Clemson, SC 29633.
