Virginia Janie Phillips Gibson, 68, of 767 Madden Bridge Road, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at her home.

Born in Jackson County, NC, she was a daughter of the late George Washington and Iona Hamilton Phillips. She worked in textiles as a spinner before her retirement and was a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Gibson was a former Vice President of the Ladies Auxillary of American Legion Post 51 and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Surviving are two sons, Victor C. Gibson, Michael J. Leisten, both of Central; two daughters, Rhonda J. Herd of Liberty, Glynnis E. Duncan of Central; three sisters, Louvera A. Price of Lexington, Loretha Gossett of Pickens, Sue P. Winkler of Central; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preeceased by her husband, Kenneth Clayton Gibson; a daughter, Jincey D. Goss; and two brothers, Douglas Phillips and Robert Phillips.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
