William Jackson Ragsdale, 95, of 117 Wicklow Court and husband of Peggy Blackwell Ragsdale, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Ragsdale was born in Westminster, S.C., a son of the late Walter Harrison and Sallie Jane Honea Ragsdale. He graduated from Easley High School in 1936 and he received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1940. Mr. Ragsdale was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a Lt. Colonel. He received two Bronze Stars during his service in World War II, and he was in charge of the Navigator's School in Monroe, La. at the age of 25. He was a former Publisher of the Easley Progress. In 1977, he retired as Chairman of the Board of Martin Printing Company in Easley.

Mr. Ragsdale was a member and Elder Emeritus of Providence Presbyterian Church. Prior to that, he was an Elder at Easley Presbyterian Church and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville. At the age of 94, he read the complete Bible.

Mr. Ragsdale served as the first President of the Easley Chamber of Commerce in 1947. He was a Trustee of Foothills Presbyterian Home for over 14 years as well as Trustee Emeritus, and he was President of the S.C. Press Association and the Printing Industry of the Carolinas, and he was a member of the Benjamin Franklin Society. Also, Mr. Ragsdale was inducted in the Easley Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005, and he was presented the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. An avid golfer, Mr. Ragsdale also loved to play Bridge.

In addition to his wife of the home, surviving are three sons, William Jackson Ragsdale, Jr., (Marcia), Edmond Marcum Ragsdale (Leslie), and Perry Arthur Ragsdale (Katherine) all of Easley; one daughter, Jere Ragsdale Coker (Tom) of Greenville; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Marcum Ragsdale; a brother, Walter H. Ragsdale; and two sisters, Marian R. Lanning and Ruth R. Sitton.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Providence Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Ellenburg Hall at the church.

Following the receiving of friends, the committal service will take place in the Veterans Garden of Honor in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
