Rev. Walker Ben Rowland, 86, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 2, 2021. He transitioned peacefully with his wife by his side. He was the former pastor of Cherry Hill Baptist Church. He was born in Anderson County to Newton and Iloan Smith Rowland on March 9, 1934. He attended North Greenville College, served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and built many houses during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Bridgeman Rowland of 66 years; daughter, Deborah Hembree (Chuck); son, David Rowland (Sandy); brother, Stan Rowland (Gayle); 10 grandchildren, James Randall Rowland Jr., James Houck (Melanie), Rebecca Rowland-Peace, Stephanie Porter, Mandy Welch, Jessica Rowland, Jared Hembree, Anthony Rowland, Reannah Harkins (Mike) and Alan Rowland; 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James Randy Rowland, Sr.
A special thanks to the Department of Veterans Affairs doctors and nurses, Interim Hospice and very special caregivers, David and Sandy Rowland, along with his devoted wife Evelyn who took excellent care of him every day.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 at 2:00PM at Robinson Memorial Gardens. Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, facial coverings will be required and social distancing protocols will be observed.
