Walter L. "Dub" Brooks

Walter L. "Dub" Brooks, 83, of 203 Four Lakes Drive, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at his home.
Born in Pickens County, Mr. Brooks was a son of the late Earl Hampton and Vera Pressley Brooks. He graduated from Easley High School, Class of 1945. Mr. Brooks was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, having served in Guam.
After being a former co-owner of B & K Cafe in Downtown Easley, Mr. Brooks founded Pickens County Produce (PCP) in 1953. Later he was Founder and President of G & B Enterprises for many years, and he was a past president of the S.C. Egg Board Association. In addition, Mr. Brooks was a founding director and board of directors member of Cornerstone National Bank.
Mr. Brooks was a a member and elder of Townville Presbyterian Church. He co-founded the Easley High School Booster Club and served as one of its first presidents. As one of the founders of Little League Football, his dedication and promotion of Easley football laid the foundation for many football traditions which live on today such as the Kid Bowl and the Easley Touchdown Club. The Easley Touchdown Club recently honored Mr. Brooks by establishing The Annual Brooks Carr Award, which recognizes an outstanding varsity football player with a scholarship.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Smith Brooks, of the home; a son, Tommy Brooks of Easley; two grandchildren, Robbin (Morris) Gray and Walter (Julie) Brooks; three great-grandchildren, Brooks and Bailey Gray and Cole Crawford Brooks; a step-daughter, Tami (Scott) Reeves, of Easley; a step-son, Lt. Col. W.M. (Chip) Stansell III (Susan) of Beaufort; six step-grandchildren, Scotty Reeves, Zach Reeves (Ashlee), Trace Reeves, Logan Reeves, Mack Stansell, and Katie Stansell; and three step-great-grandchildren, Hannah Reeves, Zachary Reeves, and Jaxon Reeves. Mr. Brooks was predeceased by a sister, Helen Carman.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
Escort of Honor will be the members of the Board of Directors of Cornerstone National Bank.
The family will receive friends from 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
