Walter Coleman, Jr., 98 of Piedmont, SC, died November 6, 2016. He was born to the late Walter and Orpha Coleman on October 7, 1918, in the Rudy, AR, area and lived in the Rudy/Hobbtown area and in Van Buren his entire life until he and his wife, Dorothy, moved to SC in 2012 to live with their son and daughter-in-law.


He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren, and a former employee of the Alma, AR School District for 52 years


He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Dorothy, of Piedmont, SC; a son Gary Coleman and his wife Sharon of Piedmont, SC; daughter-in-law Evelyn Coleman of Elkridge, MD; four grandchildren: Lori Elfers and husband Mark of Westlake Village, CA; Blake Coleman and wife Megan of Greenville, SC; Erin Coleman of Eldridge, MD; and Clark Coleman of Elkridge, MD; seven great grandchildren: Julia, Grace and Claire Elfers; Jack and Luke Waltman; and Jayden and Karris Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Orpha Coleman; a son Chris Randall (Randy) Coleman; four brothers: Farris, Thell, Eugene and Ivan Coleman; a sister Rhea Reeder; and a nephew Neil Coleman.


The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 12, at 10 AM at Ocker Funeral Chapel in Van Buren, AR. Interment will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.


Pall Bearers will be nephews: Deston, Eddie, and Larry Coleman, and Warren Thompson, and nephews-in-law: James Hunter and Gary Landers.


Honorary Pall Bearers will be Paul Sommerhill, Bobby Branham, Bill Baker, Jim Vansant, Jerry Musgraves, and Bill George.


Visitation is scheduled from 6 – 8 PM Friday, November 11, at Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren, AR.
