W. G. Sam League, Jr.

LEAGUE, W.G. Sam Jr., 72, husband of Marlene Gaskin League, died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 4, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

He was predeceased by his parents, W. G. Sam League Sr. and Sarah J. League; his sister, Trudy Sellers; his cousin, Diane Thompson and Curt and Louise Smith. In addition to his loving wife of over 46 years, he is survived by his nieces, Cindy (Michael) Wood, Helen (Chris) Morris, Wendy Blakely and their children and grandchildren; Riggie (Jane) Smith and Deborah (Larry) Rumfelt and their children and grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jackie (Brady) Waldrop; his brother-in-law, Sam (Beck) Gaskin and Fred (Sandra) Wood and their children and grandchildren; his cousin, Debbie (Doug) Alexander.

Sam was a 1985 cum laude graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society. His career as a structural engineer spanned several companies and his last work centered at the DuPont Spruance Plant. While Sam enjoyed his work, chasing a golf ball and watching Clemson football and softball, it was his greatest joy to serve his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his church, Parkway Baptist. He was an active Deacon and Bible Study Leader as well as serving on numerous committees in churches in South Carolina and Virginia over the past 45 plus years and also enjoyed being involved in various mission projects.

We wish to thank the many doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel as well as our church family and friends who lovingly supported and cared for Sam through the years.

 Visitation will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at Parkway Baptist Church. The Celebration of Jesus in his life will follow at 3 p.m. As this is a celebration, please enjoy dressing casually in joyful colors.

A funeral service to celebrate Sam’s life will be held at 10:00 AM  Thursday, May 11, 2023 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 1425 Powdersville Rd, Easley, SC  29642. The burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Garden Cemetery.
