Wanda Copeland Britts, 92, of Easley, South Carolina, wife of the late Kenneth “Buck” Britts, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Wanda was the youngest child of Herman Dewey and Ruth McNeer Copeland. She was born on January 6, 1931, above her family’s general store, Copeland Mercantile, in Rock Camp, West Virginia, where she was raised. Her family instilled in her the ethics of hard work, honesty and compassion. She graduated from Peterstown High in 1948. Then, she met her husband-to-be on a blind date in 1952. After Buck’s time in Germany with the Air Force, he and Wanda married on September 15, 1956, at Rock Camp Baptist Church. They lived throughout Virginia in Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Martinsville before moving to Charlotte, NC, then settling down in Taylors, SC, in 1964.
Wanda embraced her roles as a loving daughter; wife and mother; grandmother; and most recent assignment of great-grandmother—all with her unwavering devotion. She possessed a caring spirit marked by deep love and selfless commitment to those around her. The best expression of her affection, which remains a tradition, has been weekly Sunday dinners that bring the family together. Not to go unmentioned, her famous lemon pound cake will remain a sweet memory for many. This delectable treat became an embodiment of the love Wanda had for family and friends. She will be missed dearly.
Wanda is survived by her children, Susan Britts Gasque (Mike), Jeff E. Britts, and Ruth Britts Rice (Rex); a sister June C. Gross; grandchildren, Aaron Gasque (Sarah), Pierce Gasque (Kali Llano), Toni Huston (Connor), Meredith Snader (Will); and well-adored great-grandsons Hudson and Banks Gasque, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two siblings, J. Richard “It” Copeland and Vivian C. “Bibby” Williams, and her nephew, Jim Williams.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM at Northside United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary.
The family would like to give special thanks to Agape Hospice for their love and care to Wanda during her last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Northside United Methodist Church, 435 Summit Drive, Greenville, South Carolina 29609, or to the Salvation Army of Pickens County, www.tsapickenscounty.org
