Wayne Edwin Tippey, 85, husband of Bonnie, became a member of The Church Triumphant at 11:02 a.m., Saturday, June 14, in Myrtle Beach, surrounded by family. He died after an extended illness.
Born on November 12, 1928, in Marion, Indiana, he was the son of the late Floyd and Thelma (Tinkel)Tippey and was a graduate of Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University). He served The Wesleyan Church for 50 years, with most of these years in various pastoral ministries. His pastoral strength was in helping churches through building programs. He was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Central, SC.
He met Bonnie Pridemore at Marion College and they were married in Whitmire, SC, on December 28, 1950. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, he is survived by his brother, Dr. Byron (Helen) Tippey of Marion, IN; two daughters, Sheryl (Dale) Link of Seneca and Jo (Doug) Terry of Myrtle Beach; four grandchildren, Joseph (Heather) Terry, Amanda (David) Harris, Jen (Christian) Sabillon and Andrea (Tommy) Battles; and four great-grandchildren, Isaac Harris, Harper Terry, Ethan Harris and Charlotte Battles.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Leslie and Jennifer of Beacon Hospice (Myrtle Beach) and to Charles and Cheryl Washington, long-term caregivers.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the ALIVE Wesleyan Church, 136 Chastain Road, Central, SC, with Rev. Fred Andrews officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45 p.m., at the church before the service. Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central is handling arrangements.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery West, White Horse Road, Greenville, SC.
Memorials may be made to the Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC.
The family is at the home of Dale and Sheryl Link, 3037 Woodale Circle, Seneca, SC.
