Wendell Kay Watkins, 77, of Tanglewood Dr., husband of Jo Ann Jones Watkins, passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, 2014 at his home.

Born October 24, 1936 in Greenville County, he was a son of the late William Watkins, Sr. and Christine Haas Watkins. Mr. Watkins served in the US Marine Corp Reserves, attended Furman University and graduated from Wake Forest University. He retired from Willis Insurance with over thirty five years of service. Mr. Watkins was very proud of his community service, serving as Past President of the Greenville Rotary Club, and serving on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, the Greenville Symphony and the Greenville Singing Christmas Tree. He was a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his wife of fifty eight years, he is survived by his children, Leslie Watkins Norris (Mike), William Bradley Watkins and James Davis Watkins; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Hood and brothers, William Watkins, Jr. and Warren Watkins, Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Augusta Road Baptist Church. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Honorary escorts will be the Wendell Watkins and Joann Glenn Sunday School Classes.

The family is at the home.
