Wideman Franklin Roper, 89, of 107 Pecan Tree Circle, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Hardy F. and Mary Haynes Roper. Mr. Roper was the Past President of the Pickens County Bowlers Association and had served many other offices in the association. He was very instrumental in establishing the Easley Bowling Center. Mr. Roper was also a member of V.F.W. Post # 5093. He was a retired cotton warehouse supervisor and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Roper was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II as a Sergeant in the Signal Corp.

Mr. Roper's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

Mr. Roper is survived by his wife, Margie Bagwell Roper of the home; two daughters, Emily Roper (Phil Brown) of Easley and Laura Mota (John) of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Katherine Gillespie of Greenville; five grandchildren, Renee Ellis (Steve), Brian Perry (Tonya), Allison Rhodes (Brad), Demond Roper and Sean Reed (Melissa) ; eight great-grandchildren, Niki Alexander (Derrick), Jaimon Perry (Kelly), Brittany Harris (Dustin), Jessica Perry, Grace Perry, Alyssa Mota, Kaitlyn Williams and Josh Rhodes; two great-great-grandchildren, Kelsey Perry and Madison Alexander.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roper is predeceased by six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown. Burial will follow at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m..

The family is at the home of a granddaughter at 103 Pecan Tree Circle.
