Dr. William Eugene Dukes, 88, husband of Sylvia Campbell Dukes passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his residence.
Born in Honea Path, Dr. Bill was a son of the late William Clarence and Sudie Lusk Dukes. He was a 1957 graduate of Clemson University and graduated from MUSC in 1961. After serving his internship at MUSC he moved to Clemson and practiced medicine in the greater Clemson Community until his retirement in 2013. Dr. Dukes was totally committed to the community serving in many organizations, helped found a new community bank and spent many years involved in the Boy Scout program. He received many civic awards and recognitions from Clemson University including its Distinguished Service Award (1983), Honorary Member of the Blue Key Society, Tiger Brotherhood, and Board of Visitors. He and Sylvia are endowment members of IPTAY. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Clemson and was a retired Captain in the US Navy Reserve.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Dr. William Eugene Dukes Jr. (Janice) of Seneca and Kenneth Dwight Dukes of Clemson; brothers, Joe Robert Dukes of Anderson and James C. Dukes of the Atlanta Area; grandchildren, William Eugene "Kip" Dukes, III (Lien); Nicola Ann Mueller (Brian), Tanner Conrad Dukes, Matthew Brock (Sommer) and Shannon Black (Tony); and great grandchildren, Eric Mueller, Olivia Mueller, James Dukes and Kiera Dukes.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Bill was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Leslie Maria Dukes and brother, William Clarence Dukes, Jr.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Friday, August 31, 2018 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:50 PM, Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Blue Ridge Council or to Clemson Life Program, 110 Daniel Drive, Clemson, SC 29631.
